my hair gets really wavy when i take off my hairband. i really want to buy a hair straightener but i saw a commercial saying that your hair sticks together.Do hair straighteners damage your hair? how?
hahah that commerical is lying to you, sweetie.
straighteners are great
your hair will only stick if you ';load'; it with hairspray and gel. AND I mean load it.
Over time straightens will damage your hair
(You hair get's brittle and breaks easily)
but if you use a professional product,
like Redkins satin wear (protects your hair form heat damage and is pretty cheap, About $20-25 and it'll last you months almost a year.)
You won't even notice a difference
In fact you might find your hair is healthierDo hair straighteners damage your hair? how?
If you are planning to use your hair iron on a regular basis then I suggest you use good ceramic hair oil. This will help lock in additional moisture, which is normally lost through the application of high temperatures.
Purchase one of the top end hair straighteners which has Infra Red radiation produced from high temperature ceramic plates or Tourmaline. These special plates can help seal the moisture in your hair so that you hair does not loose its condition. Ionic technology breaks down the size of the water molecules on the hairs surface making the molecules smaller and easier for the hair to absorb. As and additional bonus it can improve the condition of you hair.
Always purchase a hair straightener with exact temperature control settings. Some of the cheaper models may only have a few pre-set temperature settings, which does not help, as you need to be as precise as possible.
it does damage your hair if you dont take the right steps...
1. if you buy a straightener make sure you get one the is pure ceramic like a CHI (or if you want to go cheaper remmington makes one for $40 at walmart that is the same thing)
2. make sure you use a heat protector before putting ANY heat on your hair ( i recommend tresemme)
3. i would also recommend tresemme thermal recovery shampoo and conditioner if you are planning on staightening your hair to help with any damage it may have caused
It doesn't stick together unless you have massive ammounts of hairspray or hairgel in your hair before you straighten it.
If anything, your hair should feel smoother and softer once straightened.
It will damage your hair though, because like any styling tool that uses heat, it will slowly kill your hair. Just buy a heat-defense spray (VO5's works well, it's only $3) and straighten away!
:D
Yeah, but you can minimize damage by getting you hair trimmed every 6-8 weeks; use a heat protectant cream or spray; condition hair after every wash and throw in a deep conditioner 2x monthly; and limit straightener use to 1-2x per week. The damage is mostly to your old hair (ends) and it will creep up the hair shaft if not trimmed and if you don't keep the rest of your hair conditoned.

Hair doesn't stick together, If you know how to use it right. Anything heat damages the hair, It's putting two flat steaming hot plates on your hair. It's going to burn it.
Yeah they do damage your hair but it is just fine if you use them once or twice a week! No damage done by this.
