Will my hair straighteners work in Australia?

I'm travelling to Oz soon and people have said my hair straighteners might not work because of the difference in voltage or something. If anyone has any idea whether they will or not could you please let me know, thankyouWill my hair straighteners work in Australia?
Not unless you straightened your hair counterclockwise, not clockwise. You could really confuse your hair!

Go to radio shack and get a voltage converter for about $25. It is universal worldwide.
Hate to tell you this, but I feel it is my civic duty. There are more important things to pack in your suitcase when travelling to Australia than a hair straightener. The most important thing you'll need will be your passport, money, credit cards, clothes and shoes, followed by a camera (Australia is quite stunning, you know?) In the event of the necessity of a long haul flight to get here, you may also need to bring a back pack for the overhead locker to store things like books, pens, travel brochures, duty free items that you pick up at either your departure point or arrival point, a bottle of water, a bag of corn chips, magazines with the odd crossword or two, your ipod if you can't deal with aeroplane entertainment, your wallet/purse and any other travelling knick knacks that you feel so inclined such as chewing gum, breath mints, tic tacs, toiletries and medication if it is necessary.

Now that you have your essentials, you will find that you really don't need a hair straightener. In the grand scheme of things, you are going to care more that you stood infront of the Sydney Opera House/gazed at Uluru at Sunset/snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef/climed the Sydney Harbour Bridge/rode a tram in Melbourne than what how straight your hair was.

If absolutely necessary, you can buy a cheap hair straightener while in Australia and simply leave it at the hotel when you leave. But really? Is vanity that important to you?
You'll need a adapter and a voltage converter. You can get a good deal online. Or your local electrical store.

Here is a site you can get a one from
Hi, yes every state except Queensland.

Hope this helps Waltz.
If you are from a country that uses 220Volts AC they will be fine with an adaptor. If you are from the USA and they are for 110Volts, they will not work. Australian voltage is 240Volt and if you plug them in, adaptor or not, they will burn out immediately and could start a fire, if they do not blow fuses or throw circuit breakers first.

Because they develop heat, they draw a lot of current and a cheap Radio Shack converter may not have the capacity to supply them and could itself burn out. This could be dangerous. Australians don't care if you have curly hair. Anyway we have plenty of fine hairdressers.

Search the Steve Kropla pages for more information. Australian plugs and sockets are type I in his list.
Make sure you take an adapter with you. Boots do a good multi counyrt one for about 拢15.
We have hair straighteners for sale in Australia....
