Is it true that CHI hair straighteners won't even work with a voltage converter?

I'm visiting in Germany and spent a lot of money on a converter, only to hear someone say that they won't even work even with a converter. Is this true?Is it true that CHI hair straighteners won't even work with a voltage converter?
i'm pretty sure they will work, but i've never used one outside of the country. good luck!
