I know you don't want something too expensive and I was like you when I was shopping for a straightener 5 years ago, but one of my friend's suggested that I get the Chi and I LOVE IT! I've had it for 5 years and it still works just as well. It's so worth every penny. I have thick, curly hair and it works wonders. Also, I can curl with it as well. It's up to you, but if you would like something cheaper, my sister uses the Revlon flat iron that you can buy at Target or Walmart and she likes it. She has thick, wavy hair. The only difference that I really see is for my sister to get her hair to look like mine, it takes her almost twice as long.
I hope this helps! Good luck! What hair straighteners are best?
i had those wet to straight ones before and i hated it.
the Infiniti by Conair Professional Heat Solid Ceramic Straightener is really good and its under $50... you can pick you up at walmart.

Check out http://www.topstraighteningiron.com. The site has some good information about the best hair straighteners and where you can find them at the lowest price.
from my experience, CHI does not seem to last longer than a year or so. Solia or Paul Mitchell is your best bet, both are highly rated by 100s of people, Solia runs about $85 and Paul Mitchell $125. check out www.folica.com make sure to get something that is ceramic at least.
I believe if you style your hair much, than it should be an investment. You can also curl your hair with them, if you get them in the smaller sizes under 1 1/4';.
If you want a good straightener your going to have to spend some cash.
what i have is a Wetliner it cuts my straightening time in half and i think it's absolutely amazing! it keeps my hair straight all day
Well i REALLY adore my CHI it works really well. It gets to hi-heat and straightens fast without having to go back over and over on the same piece. You can buy it at Sally's Beauty Supply, and it doesn't leave hair frizzy or gives flyaways. So i really reccomend it, and i think it's definitely worth the price. Hope I helped! :)
