i'd say they wear down or if u use serums then they'll prob rustDo the ceramic plates on hair straighteners go bad? Or need to be replaced?
As long as you get a good brand and clean them often, (Rub them with an old rag, make sure it's thick so you don't burn yourself, while they're hot), they should be fine for a good couple of years. My Ghd's have lasted a year and a half so far, and that's with using them daily, and my hairdresser's have lasted 3 years and she uses them on clients all day, every day!
have never heard of it happening. i have my straightener for a long time now and its working great.
