Does using hair straighteners ruin your hair?

I want to straighten my hair for a school dance but ive heard that if u use hair straighteners it ruins ur hair. Is that true? If it is, im definetly not gonna use it, but if its not- can anyone tell me how to use it?

Thanx!Does using hair straighteners ruin your hair?
don't use a straightener daily, it kills your hair.

if you only use it once or twice, then no it wont hurt.

go for it %26lt;3Does using hair straighteners ruin your hair?
Do you have African American hair? The lye in the chemicals will ruin your hair. If you try another chemical like Oglvive hair straightener, it will stil ruin your hair. Chemicals normally do that. Unles you would like to use a falt iron, still damages just not as much.
anytime u use chemicals in your hair it can possibly ruin it. but if u apply it right it will not
well it burns ur hair n makes it thin but thats it this could be solved by applying a heat protecter for the burning and just dont use it often
it ruins your hair if you do it way too much.

one day is nothing.

go for it.
They can. But occasional use seems OK to me. Just don't overdo it. Read and follow the directions. Use a good product. Don't go for cheap.
No not really. just use some heat resistant spray to pretect your hair from most of the heat from the straightener. Have a good day
Once won't hurt you, just make sure your hair is completely dry. It only ruins your hair if you do it a lot.
i don think so, my friend's friend's sister straightened my hair, its just fine.
well, honestly it takes it toll......make sure you use a ceramic flat iron.....only apply silk drops after the hair has been ironed
it kind of makes your hair really... thin thats all..
straightening your hair does ruin it, but the damage can be fixed by not straightening your hair every day maybe just once or twice a week.

other days u can just curl it or put it up in a pony tail..

when u buy a hair straightener go for the good ones not the cheap ones. i think u should buy the ones that have a heat setting so the straightener wouldn't get so hot that it will burn you're hair...

and to use it , just follow the instructions that come with it or go to the product's website for more details.

also make sure that you shampoo more, and use moisturizer because without my hair was dead after i straighten it...
I use my straightener everyday.

It DOES wreak your hair but not terribly if you only do it once or twice.

You can buy straightening oil that you spray onto your hair before hand and it will protect it well.

Good luck
No, it just burns your hair if you don't use it right. That doesn't matter so much though, if you shampoo afterwards.
any kind of heat is bad for your hair. but even though it does damage i still starighten mine almost everyday for school because i have really curly hair and it looks so much better straight. since i do straighten my hair a lot though, i know how to make it so there's not as much damage done as there otherwise would be.

if you're taking a shower 1st, then after your shower put a leave-in conditioner in (starting with the tips of your hair and then just kind of massage it in).

once your hair is dry then put some herbal essences (or whatever kind) of hairspray for straightening your hair in %26amp; then straighten your hair!

make sure that when you're straightening your hair you do it little sections at a time because otherwise you'll just end up steaming the curl/wave in. also, make sure the flat iron is really hot! even though heat does damage, if it's really hotthen you won't have to go over the same section of hair over %26amp; over again which is also not good.

have fun at the dance!

(and don't worry, straightening your hair 1 time will hardly do any damage at all!)
i think it does the same amount damage as blow drying your hair.
sometimes on ur own, u might burn ur hair. if u get it done at a salon for 25 bucks or so(doesn't have to be fancy), u'll be just fine!! good luck!!
Well, whoever told you that is only somewhat correct. If you straighten your hair more than once a month, your hair might begin to break off but if you do it for a special occasion or something, it should be fine. All you do is brush or comb your hair out, make sure you have some type of moisturizing cream or oil to put in your hair, and run the straightener through your hair until its straight.
