If I buy hair straighteners from the US, will they work with UK plug sockets?

I ask because a friend told me that US sockets are a lower voltage than ours, so I figured that UK socket will probably fry the straighteners or something. If I buy hair straighteners from the US, will they work with UK plug sockets?
They're on 110v. You'll need a step down transformer

You will need a voltage converter (not a transformer)

You can get one from http://www.maplin.co.uk

They cost about 拢15 with postage.
No they won't work, unless you get a transformer (which is likely to be expensive). You are more likely to melt your hair with them (if they work at all) as US sockes run at 110 Volts wheras we use 230 Volts.
yes, the or something.

don't try it unless you have a voltage dropper (big transformer)
Yeah she is right you will need an adaptor, try you local DIY store.
no it won't work.. u would have to get an adapter
